Description
Trauma ray, a band formed by Uriel Avila and Jonathan Perez after bonding over Slowdive in a Texas karaoke bar six years ago, has become Fort Worths leading shoegaze act. Their debut album, ‘Chameleon,’ features a blend of melancholic hooks, heavy riffs, and lush soundscapes over 50 minutes, exploring themes of death and transformation. Songs like ‘Ember,’ ‘Bishop,’ and ‘Spectre’ showcase their atmospheric and intense style. The bands three-guitar attack, especially on ‘Bardo,’ combines raw power with melodic earworms, echoing influences from Unwound and Deftones. The album ends with ‘U.S.D.D.O.S,’ a haunting seven-minute piece resembling a disintegrating satellite, symbolizing descent into darkness. ‘Chameleon’ is a polished mix of craft, melody, and gravity, offering a vivid exploration of loud-quiet-loud dynamics and evolving harmonic textures, reflecting their unique take on shoegaze.
