Description

Charlie Chaplins *The Circus* (1928) is a timeless silent comedy that showcases the beloved Tramp character in one of his most unforgettable adventures. Fleeing from the police, the Tramp (Chaplin) accidentally stumbles into the center of a circus act, unintentionally becoming the shows star attraction. The ringmaster (Allan Garcia) quickly hires him, realizing that the Tramps comedic magic only works when he isnt trying. However, as he gains fame under the big top, he falls for the ringmasters step-daughter (Merna Kennedy), who is in love with the tightrope walker Rex (Harry Crocker). Heartbroken and struggling to make the audience laugh, the Tramps future in the circus is at risk.

This Criterion Collection release presents *The Circus* in a beautifully restored edition, featuring insightful commentary, rare archival footage, and behind-the-scenes content that further explores Chaplins creative genius.
