Ought – Sun Coming Down – Vinyl Record

Description

Ought’s second full-length album, *Sun Coming Down*, follows an exciting breakout year for the Montral quartet. Their 2014 debut, *More Than Any Other Day*, made quite a splash, grabbing a well-deserved Best New Music nod from Pitchfork and landing on countless year-end lists. After spending most of 2014 energizing audiences with their engaging post-punk sound and the keen observations of singer/guitarist Tim Darcy, Ought took the first part of 2015 to write new material, perform a few local gigs, and eventually return to the studio to record a fresh batch of songs. *Sun Coming Down* keeps the band’s signature tight, twitchy, and economical sound while showcasing a thoughtfully stripped-down style. They draw inspiration from the raw production of no-wave and early indie rock, balancing sharp, angular melodies with a growing comfort in blending textures and pacing. The result is an album that is consistently energetic yet feels relaxed and pleasantly unpretentious. This album beautifully showcases Ought’s unique vitality and genuine approach, skillfully avoiding simplistic rawness and exaggerated dynamics, creating a sound that is rich yet never suffocating, minimalist yet filled with passion, and sophisticated without being overly wordy.
