Description
Hazel English challenges us to break free from the monotony of our daily lives with her debut album Wake Up! infusing shimmering, daydream-pop with radical messages and raw emotion. The California-based singer-songwriter’s decision to enlist session players and record in spacious studios has resulted in a lush, live sounding record that embodies the joy and excitement of collaboration. With influences ranging from Revolver-era Beatles to The Mamas & the Papas, English’s songcraft is at its peak on standouts like “Off My Mind” and “Like A Drug,” while lead single “Shaking” captures a hypnotic, psychedelic energy that delves into themes of power, lust, manipulation, and control.
