Description
A decade ago, Godspeed You! Black Emperor released Yanqui U.X.O. with minimal publicity, marketing, or cross-promotions. The band relied on word-of-mouth to attract fans who were moved by their unmediated and uncompromised musical communication. Today, maintaining these simple principles and goals has become increasingly difficult, but Godspeed remains dedicated to trying. Without directly stating it, they hope people will take notice of their new album, knowing that in today’s world, not strategizing can be seen as a strategy. After taking a hiatus and returning in 2010, the band has continued forging their own path. Their latest record, Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!, is a powerful and mesmerizing display of music that stays true to their legacy. Despite a bleak outlook for the future, Godspeed persists in confronting it head-on, using their music to find glimmers of hope and truth.
