[FRR108] VALEE & MVW “Where Were We” LP

Description

On Where Were We, Valee leans further into the understated cool that has defined his career. Over MVWs skeletal production, the Chicago rapper delivers his signature off-beat flows with a detached calm that turns even the simplest lines into rhythmic puzzles. The beats are sparsesoft synths, patient 808s, and barely-there drumscreating a hazy late-night atmosphere where subtle details matter more than big moments.

MVW understands Valees strengths: space, repetition, and mood. Instead of pushing the rapper toward bigger hooks or dramatic drops, the production quietly circles around him, letting his unusual cadence carry the songs. The result is hypnotic, though occasionally a little too comfortable; several tracks blur together in their minimalism.

Still, Where Were We succeeds as a cohesive vibe record. Its less about standout singles and more about the slow pull of its atmospherea reminder that Valees most compelling trick has always been making effortlessness sound like a style all its own.
