Description
Two years after Everybody Is Going to Heaven, Citizen returns with As You Please, a bold and unflinching record that dives into the turmoil ravaging their hometown of Toledo, Ohio. This isnt just about addiction or overdosesits a reckoning with the broken promises of the American Dream and the void left behind.
Frontman Mat Kerekes channels this discontent into Citizens most dynamic work yet. Tracks like Jet paint a haunting portrait of stagnation, while In the Middle of It All offers a glimmer of hope amidst Heartland ruin. The albums sonic palette is more versatile than ever, shedding the darker tones of their previous work for a refined, almost spiritual resonance. Ethereal vocals, droning organs, and operatic refrains elevate tracks like Control and You Are A Star, revealing Citizens evolution seven years into their journey.
As You Please is both a catharsis and a guiding light. It confronts damage and disarray, piecing them into a stained-glass mosaic of resilience. The album crescendos with the soaring confidence of You Are A Star and the explosive finale, Flowerchild. Citizen emerges not as meek, but as confident and expansive, offering strength through the wreckage.
