Description
Produced by Steve Fisk, Beat Happening’s “Black Candy” album departs from their previous work, exploring darker themes and a more experimental sound. The album’s lyrics delve into psychological states, referencing gravediggers, ghosts, and lost loves. Despite the edgier tone, the band’s signature childlike innocence remains intact, creating a unique juxtaposition. The vinyl release of “Black Candy” captures the rawness and emotion of the recording, adding an extra layer of depth to the album’s already rich sound. With its unique blend of lo-fi production, simple songwriting, and experimental sound, “Black Candy” solidifies Beat Happening’s place in underground indie rock.
