Description
Beastie Boys, an American hip hop group, released their debut studio album, Licensed to Ill, on November 15, 1986, under Def Jam and Columbia Records. The album is a unique fusion of hip hop, punk rock, and heavy metal, featuring hit singles “Fight for Your Right” and “No Sleep till Brooklyn.” The album’s sound was crafted by Rick Rubin, the producer, who helped the group blend these genres seamlessly. The album cover, featuring a plane with the Beastie Boys logo, is designed as a parody of the logo of the airline company “AeroMexico,” and it received criticism for its depiction of women. Despite the criticism, Licensed to Ill was a commercial hit, becoming the first rap album to top the Billboard 200 chart, and it is now certified diamond in the United States.
