Description
The group’s fifth studio album, released in 1998, achieved impressive sales of 681,000 copies in its first week, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart. Hello Nasty garnered the band two Grammy Awards in 1999: Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (Intergalactic).
In their earlier album, Ill Communication, the Beastie Boys pushed creative boundaries, blending innovative hip-hop with smooth jazz, funky beats, emotive classical, and energetic punk rock. However, four years later, their music has shifted; they’ve largely set aside guitars and returned to the classic beats and rhythms reminiscent of their iconic 1989 album, Paul’s Boutique.
