Description

Considered one of the most important films in African cinema, *Black Girl* (1966) is a striking and powerful debut feature from Ousmane Sembene. This French-Senegalese drama follows Diouana (Mbissine Thrse Diop), a young Senegalese woman who moves to France with dreams of a better life. However, upon arriving, she finds herself trapped in a life of servitude, working as a maid in an oppressive household. Isolated and disillusioned, she struggles against the racial and class barriers that keep her from the freedom she sought.

This Criterion Collection edition presents the film in a stunning restored format, preserving its raw emotional depth and social critique.
