Description

Desert Hearts, the groundbreaking debut feature from writer-director Donna Deitch, is a powerful romantic drama set in 1959 Nevada. The story follows Vivian Bell (Helen Shaver), a reserved English professor from New York, who arrives in Reno to obtain a quick divorce. While staying at a ranch catering to women in similar circumstances, she meets the free-spirited Cay Rivvers (Patricia Charbonneau), who lives unapologetically as her true self. As their connection deepens, Vivian is forced to confront her own desires and make a life-changing decision. A landmark in LGBTQ+ cinema, *Desert Hearts* remains a beautifully shot and emotionally resonant love story.
