Description
Discover four captivating pieces by Arvo Prt, the Estonian composer recognized as a pioneer of holy minimalism. This enchanting album features a unique rendition of Silentium, the second movement from Prts beloved concerto, Tabula Rasa. Performed by the Boston-based chamber orchestra A Far Cry, this version of Silentium is played at nearly half the tempo of the well-known recording released by ECM in 1984. The piece holds a special place in palliative care, with its soothing qualities often described as angel music by one patient. At this slower pace, it feels as if time itself stands still, creating a truly breathtaking experience. The album showcases some of the most beautiful interpretations of Prts music ever captured. The piece Vater Unser (Arr. for trombone & string ensemble) gracefully balances warmth and austerity, creating a miniature epic. Pianist Marcel Worms solo rendition of Variationen zur Gesundung von Arinuschka touches the heart in a way that feels incredibly profound. Additionally, Fratres for Strings and Percussion is among Prts most revered works, and the Hungarian State Opera Orchestras performance is nothing short of iconic, delivering heartfelt playing that flirts with romanticism without ever crossing the line.Prts philosophy, both in music and life, mirrors the simplicity of his compositions. He once expressed, I have nothing to say Music speaks what I need to convey. It can be risky to share anything in words; if Ive already expressed it that way, there might be nothing left for my music. ” Silentium ” is a beautiful continuation of Mississippi Records admiration for this remarkable contemporary composer.
