In challenging times, the music of Barney Lister and Kojo Degraft-Johnson truly lifts our spirits. As MRCY, this dynamic production and vocal duo tackle the many hurdles of modern life with a refreshing sound brimming with vibrant instrumentation, rich orchestration, and heartfelt lyrics. On their latest project, VOLUME 2, Barney and Kojo create emotive music that astonishes as much as it soothes, blending timeless sounds with a contemporary edge. Merging soulful vocal melodies with afrobeat rhythms, jazzy solos, and energetic, driving grooves, tracks like Man explore the intricacies of modern masculinity, while the standout track Fear sends a powerful message encouraging us to face the worries we hold about the world with hope and positivity. Following the success of their celebrated 2024 debut project VOLUME 1, which earned them nominations as Rising Stars at the Rolling Stone Awards and recognition in DIYs Class of 2025, MRCY is back with essential music that addresses the beautiful complexity of being alive today. Were trying to extinguish fear with optimism and worry with love, Barney shares. VOLUME 2 breaks the mould to show a fuller picture of who we are reflecting angst, surprises, and a whole lot of courage. The overall vibe of the project is that the world may be tough, but lets dance through it.
