Just like in the heyday of artists like Steely Dan, Harry Nilsson, or Prince releasing a beloved album each year (or even more frequently), ten years ago Mac DeMarco gifted us with ‘Another One,’ just about a year after his huge hit ‘Salad Days.’ This eight-track mini-LP, recorded entirely at his home in Far Rockaway, Queens, expands Macs already impressive collection of music. It shows how much he’s grown as a songwritermore refined and sophisticated than beforewhile still capturing the guts and soul we love. The overall vibe of the mini-LP revolves around the theme of lost love, or maybe love that never quite happened, a topic that never loses its charm. Mac takes us through it in a way that feels heartfelt and genuine, never heavy or gloomy. Listening to this record feels a bit like watching an old Bogart movie: hes still the hero, but the girl might just slip away. Great singer-songwriters dont need to keep changing things up; they just need to keep creating and sharing their songs. Thats exactly what Mac DeMarco did with ‘Another One.’ This special 10th-anniversary edition features both the original and newly remastered demos, pressed on clear and blue vinyl in a beautiful gatefold jacket. It also includes a 12-page booklet with new insights from Mac and some never-before-seen photos from that era by Laura-Lynn Petrick.
