Description
On September 15, 1957, John Coltrane stepped into Rudy Van Gelder’s cozy living room studio in Hackensack, New Jersey, to record his first remarkable masterpiece:Blue Train. This special album stands out as the only one Coltrane led for Blue Note, a lively five-track collection driven by the bluesy title track. It features a talented six-piece band with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. To celebrate the 65th anniversary of this timeless recording, a beautiful 2-LP stereo set titled Blue Train: The Complete Masters has been released. It includes a second disc filled with alternate and incomplete takesfour of which are brand new to listeners and haven’t been available on vinyl before. This set also comes with a lovely bound booklet featuring session photos by Francis Wolff and an insightful essay by Coltrane expert Ashley Kahn.
