The collaboration between Vieux Farka Tour and Khruangbin on the Ali album is a breathtaking fusion of Malian blues and Texas psychedelia that is as mesmerizing as it is unexpected. From the hypnotic title track “Ali” to the dreamy “Danse Nomade,” Tour and Khruangbin effortlessly blend their disparate styles into a cohesive, transcendent whole. The album’s highlights include the propulsive “Mariam” and the ethereal “Safia,” both of which showcase Tour’s intricate guitar work and Khruangbin’s atmospheric production. Overall, Ali is a remarkable achievement that demonstrates the power of cross-cultural collaboration in creating music that is both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition.
