Description
The Velvet Underground and Nico shook the world of pop with their first album in 1967. While their self-titled album explored the boundaries of rock music, White Light/White Heat, without Nico or Warhol, showcased their rawest and most intense energy. The first side begins with an ode to amphetamines and continues with a R&B-influenced shaggy-dog tale and an eerie folktale. However, it’s side two that truly pushes the boundaries with the frenzied guitars of “I Heard Her Call My Name” and the debaucherous 17-minute epic “Sister Ray”. White Light/White Heat may be challenging, but for those seeking the wild side of The Velvet Underground, this album is a must-listen at maximum volume.
