Description
Following their impressive debut album Eyelid Movies in 2010, Phantogram returned with the refined and expanded EP Nightlife that elevates their trip-hop shoegaze sound. This release showcases the duo’s confidence and outward perspective, with vocalist Sarah Barthel’s powerful, atmospheric vocals shining on tracks like “Don’t Move” and “Nightlife.” Partner Joshua Carter’s glitch manipulations and sharp beats add a moody, restrained atmosphere, while spiky guitars and catchy hooks keep the songs from blending together. The EP also features an industrial-inspired track, “A Dark Tunnel,” that showcases Carter’s skills without his vocals. With Nightlife, Phantogram proves that they are a force in the nostalgic yet modern dance-rock scene.
