Description
This deluxe vinyl record features a beautiful photo zine, a vibrant party poster, and a sky-blue color that will catch any eye. TOPS, a Montreal-based four-piece band with equal parts women and men, brings a fresh punk twist to traditional AM studio pop. “Picture You Staring” boasts a lush and timeless collection of intricately crafted songs, with lead singer Jane Penny’s captivating vocals giving a new voice to the often-overlooked girl on the sidelines. The impeccable blend of David Carriere’s seamless guitar playing and Riley Fleck’s measured drumming adds a touch of cool restraint to TOPS’ subtle arrangements, perfectly complementing the confident and unapologetic tone of their female lead. This album, self-written, recorded, and produced at Arbutus Records’ studio in Montreal, is a labor of love that took an entire year to create, resulting in 12 exquisite examples of masterful pop craftsmanship that will only improve with each listen.
