Some considered the Seeds’ “Good Son” album to be softer than their previous work, but this overlooked Cave’s longstanding use of quieter material and dark lyrics. The album’s opening track “Foi Na Cruz” surprised listeners with its gentle vocals and strings. “The Weeping Song” and “The Ship Song” are standout tracks, with the latter being compared favorably to Scott Walker’s ballads. The title track retells the Bible’s prodigal son story from the other son’s perspective, while “Lucy” and “Lament” are also notable songs.
